Friday Five – Romantic Comedies/Chick Flicks

Multiple Romantic Comedies

Welcome the the Friday Five! Each week we help you get to know our writers with the help of a Top Five list. This weeks category: Chick Flicks and Romantic Comedies.

Being primarily men, I figured we’d get a laugh at seeing who’s the lamest of us all by having the least man friendly list. As it turns out. . . we’re all pretty lame.

Anywho, check out the list, and don’t forget to tell us your favorite chick flicks/romantic comedies in the comments below! Don’t worry, we won’t tell anybody what you pick.

Sometimes a man needs to take a break from blood and gore and cuddle up with his woman. Or sometimes a man just needs a break from blood and gore…

  1. The Five Year Engagement – I feel this movie is extremely underrated. Likely because it is totally a chick flick. Jason Segel is awesome in this and he helped write it, so give it a chance.
  2. An Officer and a Gentlemen – Classic, nothing else to say.
  3. Easy A – Very entertaining movie, and Emma Stone is amazing in it.
  4. I Love You, Man – I understand that this is such a great movie, you probably don’t want to consider it a chick flick. However, the genre is Romantic Comedy so deal with it.
  5. Wedding Crashers – Like I said above, totally counts. Quick! Do something manly!

Despite being a female, I’m actually not a big fan of chick flicks. Spending an entire day sobbing into a bowl of ice cream, with an endless amount of snotty tissues by my side, is not exactly my cup of tea. But I suppose there are a few exceptions.

  1. A Knight’s Tale – Heath Ledger is amazing in this. And all of the classic rock songs incorporated in the movie get me pumped.
  2. He’s Just Not That Into You – I will admit that there is one part in this movie that made me swoon. It was the ending to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston’s story. If you dont know it, watch it. 😛
  3. 10 Things I Hate About You – Another Heath Ledger. Fun and cute.
  4. Aladdin – Jasmine is my favorite Disney princess (and yes, she is an actual princess).
  5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Chick Flicks aren’t exactly my thing, but I’m never against a touching story. I do have a preference to Romantic Comedies, this way I can feign that I was unaware of the romantic undertones.

  1. Hitch – I saw this one in theatres with a few of the guys from One-Quest. It was totally straight.
  2. Star Wars – In the end, Han get’s the girl. What about Luke? F**k Luke!
  3. I Love You, Man – A romantic comedy of friends, and my most quoted movie of all times. ALL TIMES!
  4. The 40 Year Old Virgin – Primarily a comedy, but it has a bit of that romance thing going for it. Everything about this movies is amazing.
  5. The Princess Bride – I only saw this for the first time about two years ago. It’s amazing, and I wish I’d have seen it sooner!
