Welcome to the first of post of One-Quest’s “This Week In Gaming”. We will be looking back at the news of the week in the gaming industry with our opinions (mostly mine but others may pop in from time to time as well), look forward to the new releases of the upcoming week, and maybe have a Did You Know? segment or something else at the end of the post each week depending on how much news there is. So with that said lets take a look at This Week In Gaming for the week of June 2nd, 2013!
The News:
-Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will be region-locked. This isn’t very surprising news as both the original Xbox and the 360 were region locked.
-Rayman Legends headed to PSVita. Originally a WiiU exclusive it will now be available on Vita, PS3, and 360. After the announcement that it was no longer WiiU exclusive this isn’t too much of a surprise either.
-PS4 to have used games DRM? GTTV’s Geoff Keighley revealed that his sources say that the PS4 will have some sort of used games control. After the backlash Microsoft is getting for a similar strategy Sony may drop this strategy but publishers may not allow it. The debate over used games is too big to get into here but I can easily see both sides of the argument.
-Sega and Nintendo announce Sonic: The Lost Worlds, a new 2D/3D platformer to release this fall exclusively for the WiiU and 3DS. The trailer was interesting, with both old school side-scrolling and Mario Galaxy levels. Could be an nice exclusive for Nintendo but the Sonic games have not had a good track record of late so we will have to wait and see. It’s worth noting that Sonic games have begun increasing in quality. Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations have been regarded as the best Sonic games in recent years. If the trend continues through to Sonic: The Lost Worlds, and it looks like it will, then we have ourselves a fantastic game coming. -E
