Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Announced

We knew the Expansion was coming. Blizzard said so themselves a few months back. Now we know what it is, where it’s going to take place, and the new class involved. We just need to know when it’s coming. . . Probably “when it’s done.”

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will be coming to the PC when it’s done. Our heroes will travel to the city of Westmarch, which has been spoken about in nearly every entry in the franchise. This will be our first chance to explore the city, so that should be pretty cool. The reason we’re headed to Westmarch? Well, Tyrael in his infinite wisdom, has decided to store the Black Soulstone in the Pandemonium Fortress located in Westmarch. Good idea huh? A fortress names Pandemonium. Who would ever want to travel into it just to gain the ultimate evil power?

Yeah, he was wrong. Again. Malthael, Archangel of Wisdom, follows Tyrael into the fortress, kills his guards and takes the Black Soulstone for himself. He claims “No one can stop death.” Bold words considering we’ve already killed every Prime Evil, some multiple times over. But yeah, that sets the scene for our heroes.

Of course, no expansion is complete without adding more characters. Enter the Crusader. He looks a lot like the Paladin from Diablo II, and even has the stupid Hammer skill. It does look like a cool character to play as. It seems like a mix between Barbarian and Monk. Probably Strength based to make a second Strength character. Lots of holy light, and holy forces seems to surround this guy in combat. And it looks like his main weapon is a flail, which haven’t been in the game yet.

Also, expect some new loot, new enemies, and a level cap increase. I assume that means all of the heroes will be receiving new skills and runes, since a whopping 7 point stat increase will do little to nothing to for the players with ilvl 63 gear.

This seems pretty cool, but theres no mention of PVP, which for some players is detremintal to their vision of the Diablo franchise. I personally could care less. I never saw Diablo as a PVP game. It was always about getting the best gear, and experimenting with skills and builds to find a way to wreck the minions of hell. What is really important will be how Blizzard and the Diablo team handle Loot drops, tables, rarity, and quality going forward.

Quality loot is so hard to come by that few players spend time trying to find it anymore, and mostly spend time scouring the auction house for the best possible items. The best answer to this solution would be to remove the Auction House, but they’re making too much money off of it right now. I would have to recommend a mode that restricted access to the AH for characters that opt in. As a bonus, loot quality and drop rates would be increased for players in the “AH Free” mode. Hopefully we hear more about the items, and itemization, sooner rather then later.

So, what do you think about this Expansion? Does it have your salivating over the prospect of more loot? Or would you rather they make a whole new game and toss this one aside? Let us know in the comments below! And don’t forget to check back for updates on Diablo III and it’s expansion Reaper of Souls.

  • One-Quest was founded many millennia ago in a galaxy know as "n00b," by a foundation of Nerds. n00b was a small galaxy ruled by an evil empire, known as the "Hipstars." One-Quest formed with the sole purpose of removing the Hipstar empire from power, and restoring balance to all Nerds...
